I think Laura summed it up best when she mentioned that the Catholic Church needs all the modern day miricles they can get, so it’s not surprising that John Paul turned the site of the ramblings of three children into a modern day Mecca. It seems to have worked though, Fatima receives over 22 million pilgrams a year and the Pope himself holds mass here on at least one of the two commemoritive days in May and October. Honestly, it’s not that impressive architectually, but what it lacks in design it makes up for in size. The main center had to be the length of two football fields.
